Atlanta Social Media Women, a new business group devoted to advancing social media marketing best practices and promoting the careers of its members, took its online group off line Monday night. The group gathered at The Original El Taco in midtown to celebrate the holidays, acknowledge the club’s founder, Toby Bloomberg, and give back to others who are less fortunate.

Bloomberg, who founded the Atlanta Social Media Women group earlier this year, was named the group’s first Social Media Marketing Leader of the year. She received an engraved crystal trophy that acknowledges Bloomberg’s many years of work as a social media advocate, educator and practitioner.

Realizing that women were getting little attention from the media for their roles in social media, Bloomberg started Atlanta Social Media Women as an ad hoc Facebook group. The handful of social media marketing experts advanced to almost 80 members by the end of the year. They meet online to share information and resources in a “closed” Facebook group. Membership is by invitation only. Atlanta Social Media Women also has a website www.atlantasocialmediawomen.com

The group collected about $500 worth of food or the Atlanta Community Food Bank. Members of Atlanta Social Media Women brought a variety of canned goods and non-perishable foods to the Monday night event for the Atlanta charity.
